French desserts you need to try

Updated: Sep 20, 2018

Most of us have a favourite go to dessert. After your meal, you may either fancy something refreshing, light fruit flavours. Whilst others would prefer nothing less than something sweeter like chocolate. France is known for incredible desserts to suit everyone’s taste buds. We have gathered a selection of desserts you should try whilst in France.

Crêpes

This dessert can either be sweet or savoury. Crepes are served with variety of fillings. The common fillings for sweet crepes can include Nutella spread, sugar (granulated or powdered), maple or golden syrup, lemon juice, whipped cream, sliced soft fruits and the list goes on. On the other hand, common savoury fillings are cheese, ham, and eggs, ratatouille, mushrooms, and various meat products.

Crème Brûlée

This dessert has a contrast of subtle caramelised topping and a smooth creamy custard base. Go on and crack into this sweetness.

Madeleines

Madeleines are classic shell like shaped, small bake French cookies. Give yourself a little treat.

Apple Tarte Tatin

Why not add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or Chantilly cream to this dessert.

Chocolate Profiteroles

Light choux pastry filled with cream and drizzled with melted chocolate.

Macarons

These are some of the prettiest, light as a feather confections that are just utterly delicious. Who said great things do not come in little packages!

Chocolate Mousse

Do you love chocolate? This romantic French dessert can be made so quickly and easily.

Soufflé

Have it on its own or try it with warm melted chocolate sauce especially if it is a chocolate Souffle.

Croquembouche

Croquembouche is a traditional French wedding cake. It is also served for special occasions. Made by piling choux pastry balls into a cone and binding them with threads of caramel.
